LEADERSHIP SUPERPOWERS DEFINITIONS

VISIONARY

You have the same SuperPower style as Professor X, Aung San Suu Kyi, Maya Angelou, Stan Lee, Martin Luther King Jr., Richard Branson and other Visionary Leaders.

Your Leadership SuperPowers™: You inspire others towards a vibrant vision. You may often see something you thought of years ago now on the market. Typically, you work best in a flexible environment although you may find it hard to complete something without a firm deadline. You can be either introverted or extroverted based on your latest intuitive hit!

Team Impact: Your SuperPower is most effective when a new direction or out of the box thinking is needed. Inspire others through a team builder all your own! You may prefer for others to figure out the details, so you may want to team up with a Logical SuperPower to help you plot out all the details!

How to Cultivate Your SuperPowers: Try to find creativity in the work you have now without having to create everything from scratch. It may be a challenge to be patient when you can see exactly what needs to be done. Your creativity is a great example of using your intuition; help others get in touch with their own! You are an idea maker, so it may be challenging to execute something that wasn’t your own idea. Also, ask for boundaries to be outlined, as your SuperPower may tend to over-create and forget important deadlines.

DIRECTIVE

You have the same SuperPower style as Thor, Steve Jobs, Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Corcoran and other Directive Leaders.

Your Leadership SuperPowers™: You are most effective in times of chaos or crisis, such as in a company turnaround, computer systems going down or during an actual emergency. You may also be called in to help take control of problems when everything else has failed.  You’re a natural born salesperson. People may ask you to be their mentor. Often you work best when there is no time for group decision-making. Your SuperPower can often work well in a regulated environment.

Team Impact: Know that everyone comes from a different point of view based on their own personal experience. If you are skeptical about a decision that wasn’t made by you, talk to someone you trust about your resistance. Relationships are more important than results in the long run. Recognize team achievements along the way. To build relationships, team up with a Relational SuperPower!

How to Cultivate Your SuperPowers: You may have perfectionist tendencies. Practice taking small risks even when you don’t have ALL the details. Being appropriately vulnerable may mean that you let yourself make a mistake on a minor detail; the reaction of others may not be as upsetting as you had imagined. Remember the distinction between failing and being a failure.

SYSTEMIC

You have the same SuperPower style as Iron Man, Bat Man, Peter Senge, Marissa Ann Mayer and other Systemic Leaders.

Your Leadership SuperPowers™: You may love to optimize systems and methods to improve results. You likely take in many details and clearly articulate new paths to success. You may work best in highly ambiguous lines of business. Your first reaction to problem solving may often be organizing the information. Your SuperPower is very useful in the face of mergers or acquisitions. You may be better at creating systems than creating tactical plans. Your SuperPower typically excels doing strategic work.

Team Impact: You probably work best when you can create your own system or follow a clear methodology or approach. Your team needs you to support them with effective processes, so make sure others know they can ask for your input in these areas. When there is a need to create a new system, or change an old one, team up with the Visionary Leader so that they can help you inspire others to see the value of the change.

How to Cultivate Your SuperPowers: You may not trust your intuition unless it is in an area of expertise or backed by facts. Try reverse-engineering to increase your intuition. Think about how you felt before making a failed decision, then figure out how you can listen to yourself better in the future.

You may feel vulnerable when operating outside of a system you didn’t build yourself. This may create discomfort and defensiveness. When others ask you to operate outside of your own approach, try acknowledging that you are out of your comfort zone. Ask a trusted leader or mentor to share a time when they were out of their comfort zone.

RELATIONAL

You have the same SuperPower style as Mister Fantastic, Angela Merkel, Oprah Winfrey, Wonder Woman, Ellen DeGeneres and other Relational Leaders.

Your Leadership SuperPowers™: Your SuperPower is connecting with people! You are able to easily create group commitments to meet common goals. You are usually extroverted and love being in the service with others. This SuperPower works best when your work environment sees the value of tapping into the collective wisdom of the people around them.

Team Impact: You may prefer a consensus-building approach, which can turn into a huge hurdle in times of crisis. When a fast decision needs to be made, team up with a Directive SuperPower! Details may not be your strength so team up with a Logical SuperPower to help you understand the importance of details. Your team needs you to remind them about the importance of building key relationships.

How to Cultivate Your SuperPowers: You may prefer to promote another person’s idea rather than your own. Although you likely trust your intuition, you may present your idea as only one option. Instead don’t negotiate against yourself when you know you have the best idea. Often, you’re the first one to show vulnerability so think about how that is either building trust or if there are someone on your team who is not ready to listen to you.

LOGICAL

You have the same SuperPower style as the Black Widow, Mark Zuckerberg, Craig Newmark, Colossus and other Logical Leaders.

Your Leadership SuperPowers™: You often work hard to achieve high performance standards. You are likely task oriented and tend to know how to motivate and reward resources to get the work done. Your SuperPower offers leadership that ensures deadlines are met and jobs are completed. You are often great at analysis and not often confused by other people’s stories.

Team Impact: If you’re not getting the opportunity to present your logic to the team, find a way to present it in a way that benefits everyone. Team up with a trusted Relational SuperPower to help you communicate more effectively so that you can assure the full understanding of shared information in a group setting. In this way you can effectively influence individuals and groups to be productive by encouraging them explain their issues and concerns. While you may be studying the plan for defects or concerns, remember the negative consequences of over-engineering. Your team needs you to help them manage relevant information to perform together as a team.

How to Cultivate Your SuperPowers: Intuition has a logical place in your life. Doesn’t it make sense to use the natural gift of intuition already within you? Be vulnerable with someone you trust; it may help you get to your desired outcome. Being appropriately vulnerable builds trust in the team and improves outcomes. Look for the opportunity to resolve other’s complaints by being very slow with offering your logical solution. Listening to others first may allow them the opportunity to figure it out on their own.  You may need to team up with a Flexible SuperPower to remember that sometimes “mistakes” can have better results than what we had originally anticipated.

FLEXIBLE

You have the same SuperPower style as Meryl Streep, Elastigirl, Gamora, Spiderman, the Dalai Lama and other Flexible Leaders.

Your Leadership SuperPowers™: Your SuperPower provides you with the ability to adapt your leadership style based on the needs of the situation. You can often reach high goals because you have the willingness and know how to take on whatever role is needed. You may have many loyal fans due to your ability to stay positive and encourage the talent of others. Your SuperPower understands how best to adapt style and behaviors to increase results.

Team Impact: You may reflexively act as the go to person for your Team. Your timing and intuition are typically impeccable. Just make sure to check your assumptions. When you need to remember the big picture seek out a Visionary SuperPower! You may not mind what part you play if everyone is either getting along or the goal is met. However, it’s okay to say the word NO. Team up with a Directive SuperPower when you need the words to ask for additional resources.

How to Cultivate Your SuperPowers: You probably love to learn and help others, so encourage others to know when to share their intuition appropriately. You may be filled with humility and may not even be aware of the value that you bring to the team. Increase your ability to be vulnerable by asking for help when you need it and saying no when you need to take care of yourself.
